Green Harvesting

Our estate Union Gap Vineyard syrah vines, in Yakima Valley, are almost fully colored! We are currently dropping fruit that is lagging behind and still holds a few green berries. This is called "green harvesting", a simple way to achieve uniform ripeness at harvest.

These clusters flowered later than the majority of the fruit and will impart unripe characteristics if picked at harvest. Once these clusters turn red they resemble the fully ripe clusters and would hurt the overall quality of the resultant wine.

Our crew is busy monitoring the 2017 harvest. We are expecting to bring our first fruit in very soon, so please stay tuned for details and great harvest photos of our crew in action.

These beautiful Syrah grapes will likely become part of the 2017 Union Gap Vineyard Syrah.
