Fire in Union Gap

Fire at Union Gap. We are very grateful to the fire fighters who saved our home and property at Union Gap Estate. You can see the video and images here that show the ferocity of the flames. Over 6,000 acres are charred with the fire still burning in the Rattlesnake Hills, Yakima Valley WA.

Battling the blaze until sun up were the units from Zillah, Yakima, West Valley, among others and last night the good folks came to mop up from Ephrata. Again, we cannot be more thankful for their efforts in what was one of the hottest days of the year. I read that the ambient temperature of the area that they were working in was 120 F. I was impressed with the plan of attack to save our house – first they dozed a fire break and then watered it to keep the embers and flames from crossing close to the property. Then they back lit fires to the main burn lines to direct the fire from the winery, vineyard, and home.

Thank you again for your service and professionalism – even with several volunteer fire fighters!
